Overcoming Barriers in the Early Church | Bible Conference

In the book of Acts, we see the explosive growth of the early church, as the apostles acted under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As we know from experience, rapid growth rarely comes without some difficulties and challenges - growing pains. Take a look at several of the challenges or barriers to growth in the early church (surprisingly like many of the barriers that we face today) to learn how the early believers stayed true to the leading of the Spirit in order to carry the Gospel not just to Jerusalem, but to Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Dr. James Fleming lived and worked in Israel from 1974 to 2006, and has developed courses of study in historical geography and biblical history, uniquely tying the studies with the biblical text. Dr. Fleming has over fifty different biblical lecture series available for presentations in the local church or synagogue. In addition, Dr. Fleming can give a presentation on the current situation in the Middle East, or share information about the work going on at his Biblical History Center in LaGrange, GA.

Join us on the weekend of April 1-3, 2016 as Dr. James Fleming leads us. Invite your friends, family, church family, and more to one, some, or all of the following sessions:

"The University Singers is the most selective choral ensemble of the MU School of Music and offers a proud tradition of excellence in choral singing. Their repertoire is varied, including major works from all periods of music history. Their performances have captured the attention of audiences at national, regional and state conventions. In November 2009 the University Singers were one of nine choirs invited from the United States to perform at the national convention of the National Collegiate Choral Organization at Yale University. In May of 2010 they accepted an invitation for a sponsored tour of Milan and Bologna, Italy, singing in prestigious venues, such as the Sforza Castle, St. Ambrose Basilica and Academica Filarmonica. After performing at the state convention of Missouri Music Educators Association in January, they were one of eleven choirs chosen to sing at the national convention of the American Choral Directors Association in Chicago during March of 2011. They were selected by audition to perform at the White House, in December 2011, and hosted the internationally acclaimed conductor, Peter Phillips, for a weeklong residency in April 2012."

The Incredible Adam Angel

We will usher in December (December 5) with a children’s musical entitled The Incredible Adam Angel. Before the musical begins, the Cherub Choir will begin the service with their own special style of music. You never know what will happen when 3,4, and 5 year olds sing in front of a crowd! The children’s musical is about a brilliant young scientist (played by Law Summers) who’s lost the joy of Christmas. With the help of his talking dog (played by Sophie Starnes) and a cheerful children’s choir, our young scientist finds the true meaning of Christmas.

Serve 2015

If you know of someone who is a single-parent or couple with limited income, elderly, or disabled, and owns their own home, and could use a helping hand with minor repairs, painting, yard work etc., please call Ernestine Arnold at 573-785-6238 to nominate that home. As you go about your daily activities, be aware that God may show you who we need to be helping, by putting that person’s situation in your mind. The Mission Committee starts working in July to visit those work sites. We will be making preparations for our Community Serve Day where we try to share the love of Jesus Christ by making life better for people in the Poplar Bluff area. Save the date of Saturday, September 12 for Community Serve Day. Last year we had about 75 persons of all ages from our church who participated. We will need YOUR help.
